Michael J. Musso has more than 20 years of extensive experience as a senior executive within a variety of industries, including educational products, distance learning, business services, technology and consumer goods. His skill set extends to turnarounds; organizational change; financial management; mergers and acquisitions; sales and marketing strategy; and beyond.
Over the last 10 years under private equity sponsorship, Mr. Musso has spearheaded mergers and acquisitions, led turnaround operations, strategic planning and executive team development for multiple mid-market portfolio companies. As President of one of these companies, ABC School Supply, he reshaped the strategy and overall operations of this 50 year old company to become a leading children's furniture manufacturer and school supply company, ultimately selling the company for a 60%+ investor return. In 2003, Mr. Musso acquired DirectoryNET, a mature technology company that had 5 years of declining sales and EBITDA. His turnaround strategy resulted in revenue growth of 300% and a 20% profitability. He led the sale of the company to a strategic buyer for a 29% ROI in just 3 years.
Most recently as President and CEO of Child Care Education Institute, a distance learning company, he orchestrated a complex asset purchase of the defunct company and set up all aspects of the new company, which has since grown to 28 employees and is in its final stages of national accreditation. Coincidentally during this period, he served as the interim President of a boutique wine operation in the Central Coast of California where he profitability eliminated over 12 months of warehoused inventory while gaining distribution in 14 states and multiple prestige accounts.
Having spent 14 years at Procter & Gamble, Pepsi Cola and Frito-Lay, he has extensive experience in leading field sales teams and managing large complex operations.
Mr. Musso earned his Bachelor's degree in Communications from the University of Tennessee where he has been a presenter at the UT MBA Executive in Residence program and an advisor to the MBA CPG "Boot Camp" program. He is a member of the Turnaround Management Association and has served as a Director of a leading Sunglass and Optical products company.
