Domenic Aversa Domenic Aversa has actively assisted companies in dramatic transition for more than 17 years. His experience with restructurings ranges from crisis management to assisting companies in making the transition from a command to a market economy in Russia and China.
Domenic has served as an educational speaker and a managerial advisor on international business development and insolvency issues for business and academic institutions. Audiences have included the Harvard Business School and the Sloan School of Management at MIT.
Since 1997, Domenic has worked in workouts and turnarounds as a principal and managing director with leading consulting firms headquartered in the Mid-West. He has advised, assisted and participated in more than 150 transactions involving both operational and debt restructuring including the sale of financially underperforming and distressed organizations, both nationally and internationally.
Serving in senior executive roles, he has demonstrated an ability to lead organizations through crisis towards successful restructurings. Notable engagements include; CRO of $170mm Tier One automotive supplier; CEO of $130mm furniture manufacturer; CRO of $200mm residential construction supplier; CEO of $35mm men’s apparel retailer.
His time in restructurings also includes international advisory engagements. In 1999, he was invited by the Economic Development Ministers of Shanghai and Jiangxi provinces in China, to serve as an operational advisor for several State Owned Enterprises. Notable companies assessed and advised included; Shanghai Watch and Clock (30,000 employees); Jiangxi Iron and Steel (11,000 employees).
Domenic began his career in business and finance as an entrepreneur. In 1991, seizing the opportunities afforded by the break-up of the Soviet Union, Domenic formed a company to assist key international food and beverage industry participants gain a strategic foothold in the emerging Russian markets. His work included developing distribution infrastructures as well as identifying and establishing strategic alliances, joint ventures and acquisitions. To facilitate this part of his business, he founded and operated a financial services division based in Moscow. At the same time, Domenic was an integral part in a third segment of his business, commercial real estate. His company focused on numerous land development projects, including land-use and construction management.
Domenic’s academic background includes a Bachelor of Laws degree from the University of Windsor and a BA from the University of Waterloo, Canada. He also studied Eastern European Development at the Moscow State Institute of International Relations (MGIMO) in Moscow, Russia and at the University of Manchester in Manchester, England.
He is a member of both the Canadian and Ohio Bar associations. As a former owner of a semi-professional soccer team, he is a former Director of the Canadian National Soccer League.
As an extension of his part-time work with the Children’s Aid Society, in 1994, Domenic authored a children’s book that was designed as an educational tool for teachers of adolescents, which focused on matters concerning AIDS, STD’s and teenage pregnancy. This book, entitled “Lemonades”, was endorsed by two United States Surgeon Generals and listed on the Centers for Disease Control recommended reading list. In 1997, Domenic received a “Marketing Masters” award from Inc. Magazine for his efforts in marketing the book and a corresponding educational program that was distributed in five different countries including Portugal, Cuba, Palau, Canada and the United States. |
