David L. Carmell comes to MorrisAnderson as an Independent Consultant, contributing more than two decades of valuable experience in consulting, entrepreneurship, M&A and senior executive management. Over the course of his career, David has acquired, owned, integrated and managed six turnaround companies in distribution, remanufacturing, logistics and transportation. In addition, he internally funded substantial revenue growth and acquisitions through pioneering programs in customer service, delivery systems, purchasing, inventory/vendor management, billing, and supply chain management. David is a multi-year finalist in the Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year competition.
As President and Owner of Blue & Gray Holdings and related companies, David created and implemented cost-reducing forecasting/scheduling algorithms and developed customized delivery programs for the company, which provided truckload, container, dedicated transport, supply chain, logistics, and safety and security services. David's supply-chain recommendations resulted in a savings of more than $1.5 million for a Fortune 100 customer and improved revenue, cash flow, service level, and cost reductions for a major manufacturing customer.
Before starting Blue & Gray Holdings, David was President and Owner of Consumers Tire & Supply and related companies, improving margins by nearly 15 percent. A distributor of automotive parts, tires and remanufacturing and installation services, the business was perennially ranked among top national performers by Automotive Warehouse Distributors Association, as well as industry statistics.
David also was the founder and Managing Director of CFS International and Assistant to the Chairman of the Board at CFS Continental, Inc., a publicly held $3 billion foodservice distributor and manufacturer, where he participated in the Executive Management and Strategic Planning committees and was integrally involved in numerous acquisitions, cost cutting, and other high level projects and recommendations/decisions.
David holds a law degree from Southern Methodist University School of Law, where he was awarded a commendation for "Outstanding Performance of Duty" from the U.S. Department of the Army for innovative and scholarly legal opinions/strategies "on international law issues affecting Army operations and overseas basing, resulting in many tangible benefits for the Army." He has a bachelor's degree with honors in international relations from Occidental College. David is a member of the State Bars of Illinois and Texas.
